#investing matters more than ever. Individuals have been given greater responsibility for our financial future (a.k.a. retirement) without the necessary know-how to ensure that our financial goals are realistic and whether or not we can achieve financial independence.
Welcome to the 10th video in a series based on Gene Natali’s award winning personal finance book, The Missing Semester. This 13 video playlist, breaks the financial literacy book into a bite size piece followed by a single action step for you to apply after reading each chapter. This video discusses Chapter 9, Investing: Why It Matters. Read Chapter 9 of "The Missing Semester" for a deeper dive into this topic.
HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
Investing is the most important topic discussed in The Missing Semester, and it's never too early for you to start investing.
To ensure that you have money to invest, apply a "save first" approach. Consider this, save the money you make during the 1st hour of your work day, and spend the money you make over the next 7 hours, and do so automatically. Make investing as simple and seamless as possible by automating your investment contributions (i.e. deposit the money directly from your paycheck).
YOUR ACTION STEP:
Understand compound interest! We are living in a world where we are encouraged to try and "get rich quick." Time is your friend. Compound interest your friend. The sooner you bring these two together, the sooner you will be on the path to investing success and financial independence.
